welcome to Kipevu Thermal Power Station

Kipevu 1 Diesel Plant

Installed capacity: 6 x 12.5 MW

Year of commissioning: 1999

Engine manufacturer: MAN DIESEL

Engine type:MAN DIESEL 9L 58/64

Generator manufacturer: ABB

Generator:11KV, 14.4 MVA Synchronous ABB HSG 1600SS14

Kipevu I Diesel Plant, commissioned in 1999, is a thermal plant which has six four-stroke diesel engines. The engines run on Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) at loads above 6.5MW and Industrial Diesel Oil (IDO) for start up to 6.5MW. The diesel engines are medium speed engines which drive synchronous generators at a synchronous speed of 428 revs/min. The diesel generators generate power at 11kV which is stepped up by power transformers to 132kV into the national grid. Two diesel generators generate into one 30MVA power transformer which means the power station has three power transformers connected to the national grid.

Kipevu III Diesel Plant

Installed capacity: 7 x 17 MW

Year of commissioning:2011

Engine manufacturer: Wartsila

Engine type: Wartsila W18V46

Generator manufacturer: ABB

Kipevu III Diesel Plant, commissioned in 2011, is a thermal plant which has seven V-type four-stroke diesel engines. The engines run on Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) from start up to full load. The diesel engines are medium speed engine which drive synchronous generators at a synchronous speed of 500 revs/min. The diesel generators generate power at 11kV which is stepped up by power transformers to 132kV into the national grid. The station has three power transformers and a Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) for 132kV switchgear.
